Global-MIX is revolutionising the Internet Broadcasting Industry
Our overriding aim is to help Broadcasters deliver Rich Media while allowing ISPs deliver the best possible video experience to their broadband subscribers. That makes subscribers happy, our customers (Broadcasters and Content Providers) happy, and that makes us happy!
What is Global-MIX
The Multicast Internet eXchange infrastructure has been developed to provide a platform for distributing streamed video and radio across the Internet. We exploit standards-based technology to do this in a highly scalable, efficient, and cost-effective way. We stay in control of stream delivery - we do not currently use peer-to-peer technology, which enables us to deliver a high quality viewer experience time after time.
What is Multicasting?
Multicasting of TV and radio allows millions of viewers, with broadband connections, to be able watch the same broadcast without the need to replicate the signal for each unique viewer. Every time a new viewer requests to see a TV or radio channel the signal is supplied from their nearest active node.
Why Broadcaster should connect?
Connecting to to Global-MIX allows broadcasters to inject a resilient video or audio stream into the exchange and have that broadcast efficiently to millions of multicast viewers.
Why ISP's should peer?
Streamed video and audio is sensitive to network conditions so it makes sense to keep the network path between source and receivers as short as possible. Transit routes should be avoided as these tend to be the busiest paths and can incur the longest delays, as well as being expensive to use. Peering alleviates these potential pitfalls and minimises the risk of a degraded viewing or listening experience.
